If you want your roof to stay for long, then you must take good care of them. The roofing system of the house requires proper maintenance, no matter how durable they are, to protect your structure throughout its lifetime.

One should not forget that even after the initial investment is made to purchase the roof, there are certain measures that you will need to continue to take over the years to guarantee that your roof will last.

One of the easiest steps that can be taken to maintain your roof is to keep it clean. Dirt, leaves, debris, and even rain water can all accumulate on your roof which can make it subject to rust, corrosion, and weaken it from excess weight. Cleaning your roof with specially formulated roof cleaners and removing all debris will protect it from premature aging.

Regular inspections should be done at least yearly. Pay particular attention to missing fasteners, shingles, sheets of metals, and other area that may be subject to damage. Look for areas where water accumulation and molding may be occurring, which can signal poor drainage due to ill-fitting gutters and poor structural design.

Various other factors that are damaging for your roof are: over hanging trees, heavy equipment, and exposed electrical lines.

Trees that over hang can fall over onto your roof causing damage and will also allow water to drain onto your roof allowing for water damage. Equipments like air conditioners can also cause your roof damage if they do not have adequate support, and exposed electrical lines can pose a fire threat if they come into contact with your roof or equipment on it.

One should always make sure to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for proper maintenance of the roof. These maintenance visits can be very helpful in detecting even small problems that we otherwise are not able to notice and skipping even one maintenance visit can make your roof susceptible to damages.

Many new strong and durable roofing materials are being regularly developed that are helpful in extending the life of the roof like protective coverings, light weight material etc. It is very essential to take good care of the underlying material to protect the roof well. Therefore, take care of your roofing and your roofing will take care of you.
